My inspiration for this cowl came from the yarn itself: I wanted to play with these soft and fluffy colors and it seemed to me that a simple, elegant and comfortable neck warmer would be perfect to highlight this nice Merino Worsted.
This cowl is easy to knit and the pattern is quickly memorized which makes it an ideal project to learn how to knit mosaic stitch. Enjoy! - Louise
IN ADDITION TO THIS FREE PATTERN, YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO KNIT THE MOSAIC COWL
YARN
Yarn from Louise Robert Design Collection – Merino Worsted (100% merino sw, 200 meters / 100 grammes)
- Color A – 90 grams (shown in ART DECO)
- Color B – 40 grams (shown in DANCING QUEEN)
ACCESSORIES
- Circular needles of 5 mm (#US 8), cable length of 60 cm; 24".
- Crochet of approx 5 mm.
- Stitch markers.
- Contrasting yarn for provisional cast-on.
- Tapestry needles to weave-in the ends.
FINAL SIZE
- Circumference = 64 cm; 24" (to increase or decrease the circumference, add or subtract stitches in multiples of 8).
- Height = 25 cm; 10"
GAUGE: 19 stitchs = 10 cm; 4" in stockinette stitch
NOTE : The starting border is made using a provisional cast-on, then the border is folded on itself and the stitches that are on the needle are knitted with the stitches of the provisional cast-on in order to close the border. You can find a tutorial about this technique on our website HERE.
The mosaic stitch pattern is made with two contrasting colors but, unlike stranded colorwork, only one color is used per round and the motif is achieved by slipping stitches in strategic places.
