NEEDLES AND ACCESSORIES  

  • Circular needle
    SIDEWAY PORTION:
    circular needle of 3.75 mm (US #5); cable length of 40 cm (16 in) or longer - or size needed to obtain gauge
    TOP-DOWN PORTION: circular needle of 4 mm (US #6); cable length of 80 cm (32 in) or longer - or size needed to obtain gauge

  • Stitch Markers

SIZE 

39.5 cm; 15 in depth and 152.5 cm; 60 in wingspan

Sideway Portion only (given for first blocking):

28 cm; 11 in depth and 118 cm; 46 ½ in length

GAUGE:

17 sts & 26 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in Garter Stitch after gentle blocking.

Gauge is not crucial, but it will affect finished size and yardage requirements.

NOTE: This shawl is worked in two directions: the main body of it is worked sideways, from end to end with increases and decreases. Then the stitches are picked up from the bottom of the shawl to work the border.
