This free shawlette pattern is an exclusive Designs by Jayalaskhmi for Biscotte Yarns with our Dk Pure .

In the novel “Jane Eyre”, Charlotte Bronte uses her characters to embody aspects of reason and passion – two opposite aspects that also serve as constant themes throughout the book. Jane’s actions and reactions are governed by her rational thoughts and passions. Jane’s sense of reasoning overrides her passion in her decision making. She fights to remain as she is instead of conforming to Mr. Rochester’s standards.

This shawl is an ode to the two polarizing aspects of Jane Eyre. The shawl is a two-color crescent-shaped shawl with an embossed leaf/vine running horizontally across the bottom of the shawl and a garter/stocking stitch body knit vertically to the top cast off edge. This is perhaps the most graceful of all the embossed leaf lace patterns. The leaf lace pattern is knit first using main color (MC) for the total length of the shawl. Using a contrast color (CC), the stitches for the body are then picked up along an edge of the lace, and knit to a crescent shape using German short rows. The design provides a choice of either a garter body or a stockinette stitch body, followed by an eyelet border.
