We’re excited to present the Magic Cylinder, an ingenious hat designed by Stéphanie Voyer that easily converts into a soft, comfortable neckwarmer.

Is it a hat that turns into a neck warmer, or a neck warmer that turns into a hat? It's up to you to find out! 😉

You have the option to purchase the pattern only or the knitting kit, which contains both the yarn and the pattern needed to knit this project!

THIS KNITTING KIT INCLUDES

  • The Magic Cylinder knitting pattern (sent as a digital pdf format) - The pattern is included when you purchase a kit.
  • BISCOTTE YARNS - BIS-SOCK SELF-STRIPING [ 85% merino wool sw, 15% nylon; 400m per 100 g] - 2 X 50G - shown in Chasse-Galerie

YOU WILL ALSO NEED THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS:

  • DPN or Circular needles (with cable lenght of 80cm (32'') for magic loop) of 3 mm (US 2.5) - or size required to obtain the gauge
  • DPN of 3 mm (US 2.5) or a Cordsmith tool to knit an I-cord (optional: the I-cord can be replaced with ribbon)
  • Tapestry needle

SIZES - S-M (L-XL)

Final circumference: 43 (53) cm; 17 (21) in.

GAUGE

30 stitches = 10 cm (4'') in Stockinette Stitch.

NOTE

This pattern is worked in two parts: the headband, then the cylinder. The cylinder part is also the part that will serve as the crown if you want to wear this piece as a beanie.
The headband is knitted flat as a rectangle, which will be folded in half to form a double-thickness band. The headband is finished with a seam connecting the cast-on row to the bind-off row. For a seamless version, use a provisional cast-on and replace the seam with a kitchener stitch.

In the second part, the cylinder is cast on directly onto the headband, picking up stitches along the two layers of garter stitch. It ends with a series of small eyelet openings, through which you can thread an i-cord or ribbon to close the crown.

The lined headband offers good protection against the cold, and if you have long hair, you'll appreciate the opening in the crown to let your mane breathe!

ENJOY! ♥

This pattern is sold in a digital pdf format: a link to download your pattern will be provided once the order is completed and you will also get this link by email (make sure to check your spams if you can't find the email in your inbox)
