MADDER + CREAM OF TARTAR The dyer's madder (madder) is a perennial plant native to Asia of the Rubiaceae family that was widely grown for the red dye extracted from its roots. When one adds dye of madder and cream of tartar in the same dye bath, a wonderful chemical reaction takes place, whereby the red is slightly pigmented with pink! - Louise

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT NATURAL DYES
Due to their artisanal nature, hand-dyed wool skeins can be different from each other even if they both come from the same dye bath. By adding to the equation the use of vegetable dyes, you must know that there can be a great variation of the colors between the different lots. Since plant dyes are highly dependent on mother nature, variations can come from the plants themselves, the season, where the plant was grown and harvested and how tannins are stored. That said, natural colors are living colors that, once knit, magically develop and blend well together.
